Spokane is
Rick Alverson's even lonelier solo venture. After leading
and being the main songwriter in Drunk, the North American
post-folk band, during a period in which they released four
albums and two Ep's - one of them, "Sickbed",
was released exclusively by Acuarela- Alverson has decided
to explore a more personal vision with Spokane. This five
song Ep that we released a few months after the debut album,
"Leisure & other songs". As sort of a leitmotif
of the record is the inability of finding an emotional balance
if not bent over the kitchen sink, sitting on a chair while
tying your shoelaces, or nodding your head to greet a neighbour.
Instrumentally, the record moves along the same lines of
Drunk, though the arrangements are more autistic and singular,
with the intention of making it clear that when it comes
to songwriting you don't have to sacrifice the lyrics to
the music or the music to the literature. Introspection,
lyrical density, poetry and affliction converge on a record
that will bewitch all those that have built a personal altar
for Nick Drake or Tim Buckley.
