FRANKIE SPARO
Frankie Sparo moved to Montreal from his native Victoria a scant two years ago, and has been turning heads in his adopted home ever since. A mysterious 4-track cassette was first delivered to us in the summer of 1998, and through those thick mists of tape hiss and reverb-drenched guitar, the outlines of a bold new presence could be traced. Frankie in the flesh is all arched eyebrows and scrawn, an unstudied elegance marking his every move. The man exudes a blend of style and sincerity in ways you didn't even know you had ways. No guff. Forget irony, because Frankie's in possession of something that goes beyond, that captures an as yet unnamed method of both setting a mood and stealing a snapshot of our unsettled selves.
